Pavel Durov, the owner and CEO of the Telegram messenger, has been arrested on a warrant for crimes related to his popular messaging app. French police arrested Pavel Durov at Le Bourget airport near Paris on Saturday.

Police say Durov was arrested on a warrant for crimes related to the popular messaging app, AFP reported, citing unnamed officials. According to French broadcaster TF1, Durov was traveling aboard his private plane from Azerbaijan and was arrested around 8:00 p.m. local time (18:00 GMT). He is due to appear in court today.

France’s OFMIN agency, which deals with the prevention of violence against minors, issued an arrest warrant for Durov as part of a preliminary investigation into alleged crimes, including fraud, drug trafficking, cyberbullying, organized crime and facilitating terrorism.
